Dr. Hunter is the author of the self-help book

Your Childhood Is Over...No it's Not!

My framework

In my work on Repetition Compulsion, I describe what I call The 6 Bad Messages that I feel we carry from a toxic or abusive childhood, and  I describe the three key ways adults can begin to heal:

• Developing awareness of repeating patterns
• Learning to trust one's feelings and instincts
"Nip and Flip" — interrupting and consciously replacing internalised Bad Messages

On my YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrDbSLS4rE-S837I7JUxyEg

I present these 3 ways to heal through the Three Wise Tails: who are my three beautiful Dogs!

Petal explains Awareness

Blossie  tells us we must start to trust our instincts and feelings  and

Dotty tells us to 'Nip and Flip' The 6 Bad Messages.

These concepts reflect my own way of understanding and explaining Repetition Compulsion, developed through personal and clinical experience.

In her early years, Dr. Hunter was an Irish Champion in Artistic Gymnastics and an Irish provincial competitive swimmer. She continued classical ballet into her late thirties.

In Limerick, Ireland, she set up her private practice in Sports and Exercise Medicine, where she dealt with athletes in all sports, from recreational to elite level. However, she had to retire early from her medical career when she developed neuropathic pain, secondary to endometriosis adhesions. While Dr. Hunter achieved professional success, her personal life was a catalogue of disasters. While it would be easy to blame others for all these disasters, Dr. Hunter realised that she too, had a part to play in these disasters happening to her. She had to admit to herself that she kept making the same mistakes. This admission led her to explore the concept of 'Repetition Compulsion' and how it affected her life. She was then inspired to write this book to help others understand the concept of 'Repetition Compulsion' and help them see that, they too, may be repeating the same destructive patterns. The book includes examples of her own experiences and the experiences of others. She describes all these experiences by using the fictional character named Eva, in order to protect identities.

These days, Dr. Hunter gives public talks and media interviews.
