How can we stop repeating self- destructive behaviour if we don't even know we are doing it?
This book is for those of us who are struggling with the fallout from an abusive childhood. Do you feel you are a failure in life? Do you struggle with personal relationships? Do you lack confidence? Do you hate yourself? Do you feel your life is just a series of disasters? Drawing from my own life experience, I decided to write this book in the hope that I could help others who are under the control of Repetition Compulsion.
When we were children, living with abuse became our 'normal'. As adults we are subconsciously programmed to repeat the abuse because we gravitate to what feels 'normal'. By doing this, we revictimise ourselves, as we recreate the abuse we suffered as children. This subconscious process is called Repetition Compulsion. Therefore, our childhood is not over just because we are adults.
While we will never forget the abuse we suffered as children, we can stop ourselves from repeating it in our adult lives.
This book shows us how we can stop this detrimental behaviour pattern. It gives adults from abusive childhoods hope that their adult lives can be free from more abuse.
This book offers a new way of living, one where we adults are in control and not our subconscious minds. As part of this process, we also begin to love and respect ourselves; something we were not taught to do as children. We are finally able to stop recreating the abuse we suffered as children. We are then able to forgive ourselves for our failures and bad choices because they were out of our control. We begin to see we actually did really well, considering the emotional handicaps we carried from our abusive childhoods. We begin to feel we are safe, we matter and we are worthy of love and respect.
For any adult who is trying to 'get over' their abusive childhood, this short book is a pocket companion aide to better days ahead.
